Binaural Odyssey
The body already knows how to rest. It simply needs the right conditions.
Binaural Odyssey is a free VR experience built on a single premise: that abstract audiovisual environments, designed with care, can reduce anxiety and restore focus without a single word of instruction. Floating shapes drift and pulse around the viewer. Binaural audio — sound engineered to work differently in each ear — grounds the nervous system. The virtual world responds to where you look, generating visual forms from your gaze: you are not a passive observer, but part of the system that shapes the space.
Released on Steam in 2020 in collaboration with Yle Sandbox and the University of Tampere Faculty of Interactive Technology, Binaural Odyssey was accompanied from the outset by academic research. A study published in Applied Sciences (2022) tested the work with 13 participants, measuring heart rate variability, structured interviews, and self-reported anxiety levels. The results showed reduced anxiety and tension, increased relaxation, and enhanced mental resources.
On Steam, the work holds an over-80% positive rating. It remains free to play.
